dashboard squeak
Had the dashboard top off TWICE today! Used vaseline and duck tape and silicone spray and still have the most annoying squeaking ever. It appears to be just beneath the windscreen. Pressing on the dash at this point stops the squeak. I think that there must be something squeaking behind the dash between the bottom part of the dash and the windscreen. Annoying

Someone gave me the tip of inserting a business card between the dashtop and screen, 'it works'

As you say in your post there is a piece of trim at the bottom of the windscreen. This trim allows air to demist the windscreen. It's (in my case) coloured black. Have a good look at it and see if it has any cracks in it? If it is cracked this could be the cause of your squeak. The bad news is that this is not actually a piece of trim at all, but part of the whole dash assembly, which will require complete removal to repair properly. There are many other things it could be; broken dash locating tabs (dash out to repair) or possibly broken instrument locating tabs or missing clips etc.etc. Here's a link that may be helpfull: http://volvospeed.com/Dashremove.php Hope it isn't a big job! i tried to find a squeek and got carried away!!!http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/photopost/data/3067/23.jpg
There are a a few main dash mounting screws in the engine bay, under the wiper cowling, check these, but don't overtighten them http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/photopost/data/3067/86.jpg

Try following Simon Linton's advice - seems to have worked for quite a few members

I sprayed a load of silicone lubricant between the windscreen and the dash.
Seems to have worked. I emphasize "seems to have worked" because this squeak has a habit of coming back... Thanks for all the replies. |
