Unhappy Radio update

Update on the radio problem:
On the way to work this morning the radio wouldn't turn on and then suddenly, half way through my trip, it suddenly turned on and was functioning ok.

When I got to work I turned off the ignition and removed my key and the radio stayed on. I kept pushing the off button and eventually there was a loud 'shhhh' noise and it turned off.

This evening the radio is completely dead and there is no display. Also the reversing sensors are no longer bleeping, despite their button indicating they are turned on.

Anyone got any new ideas on this one? Could it be a fuse, something shorting etc?

regarding these ICM problems , some people have been changing the whole panel with pushbuttons etc ( which includes the ICM ) which costs about £850 , the ACTUAL ICM called " Display" is £650 so saving £200 straight away ...

Car was checked out by dealership today and, surprise suprise, they have diagnosed that the ICM needs replacing. They have quoted me £1200 to supply and fit the part. In addition they identified a leak on the 'angle gear' which they said needs fixing and the rear wheels need a 4 wheel alignment.

Total cost is £1800 for everything (inc ICM). Just what I need before christmas. Anyone got any cheaper options for these ICM problems? They appear to be quite common, so I wondered if there was anyone out there in the UK repairing them.

The ICM is £650 + VAT of course labour shouldnt be more than one hour so how do they justify £1200? Make sure they are selling you the ICM called " Display" in the parts list rather than the whole push button unit ( which includes the ICM ) which is £850 .
if the angle gear is leaking between the casing halves ask if there is a policy on your particular car where you may get a contribution . The leakage is small so you could top it up every service ...

The parts they have quoted are;
M V30732643 N/STK Control Panel £806.00 each +VAT
M V08691181 N/STK ICM Reload £37.00 + VAT
D 36004 Software control module
download £22.05 +VAT
A 39350 ICM Replacing £62.65 +VAT

Net: £927.70
Vat: £139.16
Total: £1066.86

Does that sound like just the ICM or the dearer part inc buttons?

I've got the exact same problem with my 2004 XC90 too. Radio is dead, and no park assist. The light on the park assist button functions fine, but there's no sound - presumably because the whole radio subsystem is dead.

It's going in on Wednesday for diagnosis - I'm fearing the worst...

Cheers,

Steve.

Just had the news that it looks like my ICM is faulty. Full cost is around the £1100 mark, but that's for the full ICM assembly. The display is V30752237 at £645+VAT, but the dealer aren't "sure" that will fix the problem, whereas they know that the more expensive part will definitely fix it. The risk is going for the cheaper part, but it not fixing it, and I won't have any comeback on them.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Steve.

If I was looking at £1100 to replace the radio then I would seriously consider aftermarket from a decent ICE specialist.

(I'm assuming that the ICM doesn't have any other electrical function other than park assist and stereo).

I wonder if it's possible to get a headunit with built in nav and a reversing camera for that kind of money.

Default xc90 with ICM fault

Having only just had splined connector and angle gear replaced last month, along with new front discs, car was returned to dealer as it was creaking badly. When car was due to be returned, it suffered failure of stereo, and then complete electrical failure. Service Manager said similar failure occurred a couple of weeks ago, as an XC90 was being returned to owner.
I know ICM failure is quite common, but could it be connected to the repair work having just been done, ie battery disconnection etc?
Car just under 6 years old, so may have some re-course to Sale of Goods Act.

For anyone interested,
I was told by my volvo main dealer that the ICM was faulty and needed replacing at a cost of........£850>>>>>aaagh
Bought one from a salvage yard, fitted it and it works perfectly,no coding ,no software download,
Personally think that main dealers mislead people on purpose.
PS unit from salvage yard was £100
Hope this helps anyone
ICM unit can affect certain dash functions,in my case the dashboard itself suffered intermittent power loss,no speedo etc.
not suer how volvo justify £850 for a part that must cost them nowhere near this, and is easy to fit.
