Audi fined 800 million Euros for diesel violations
Article : https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-vo...-idUKKCN1MQ13D
This bit made me laugh : "Audi accepts the fine and will not lodge an appeal against it, the company said. By doing so, it said it admits its responsibility for the deviations from regulatory requirements." To me that means : f*ck we got caught.

This whole saga has a smell about it. It's the directors that set unattainable targets for emissions and then wonder why staff cheat. And yet still they have customers? What other engineering targets are not met. What quality issues are not dealt with.
But perhaps the biggest question is why you would buy an Audi when everything that matters is on a Skoda? |

People buy the brands now just because of the brand and not on quality of product convinced that what once was a premium brand for several reasons, is now very average at best.

VAG were merely the ones caught out for doing this.Renault to a certain extent dodged the high fines by subsequently owning up to the same. Were they the only two to "massage" the tests? I very seriously doubt it!

Looking at the Ford Focus RS engine issues as an example, where the design is flawed from the outset, you have to assume that as with any line of work, the voices and opinions of the experts (engineers etc.) are over ridden by the quick win mentality of accountants and directors. Ford have had many wide spread issues with the Powershift transmissions, eco-boost engines, high power engines, VAG with the old DSG gearbox problems just to name a few. Yet, when it all goes wrong, the customers are fobbed off and left wth a piece of scrap metal that they have either paid or owe thousands for as OEMs do not want to hold their hands up for their deliberate/intentional screw jobs...... until they are forced down the path of a massive lawsuit.

It's running as smooth as any car could do at the moment. Certainly giving me less grief than the XC60 which had the DPF Warning light issue, 3 visits to the dealer to sort that one out. The reality is all mfrs can have a weakness somewhere along the line.

The cheat device in Europe is actually legal. They are fined for covering up the fact they had the software and were not declaring it.

And while we are on this subject the new European consumption tests went live on 1st September 2018. Most manufacturers just retested their cars under the new extensive test and published the results. But...
Several VAG models were taken off sale at 1st September so that the engines could be reconfigured! |
