Why don't you look for the revised model after the 850, the v70 T5 or R. Will be cheaper. Not sure I'd pay £9k for an 850 but its your money !

Found this. Not an 850r but the T5-R seems just as popular? What's the difference other than £5k?

Since the age of about 8 I had always wanted a Rolls. As a young man and being in a position to seriously consider purchasing one I started looking at prices and what I could get for my money. It soon dawned on me that Bentleys were a lot cheaper than a Rolls and affordable, so decided on a Bentley. Bentleys were after all made by Rolls so what is the difference - apart from the radiator grille and name not much. I duly bought a Bentley and set too and completed a full last nut and bolt restoration, but never truly fell in love with it as it was not a Rolls. I soon sold the Bentley and bought a R-R Silver Cloud and instantly fell in love because it was a Rolls which is what I always wanted. Owning it for 33 years must say something for the love affair.

I think the R is basically just a later version of the T5-R. Certainly both were top of the 850 range, for me the T5-R would be more desirable because it was first.
There's every chance that the cheaper one is better than the more expensive one, but even if it's not you can do a lot of rectification for £5k. Personally I think the green one looks a lot nicer inside and out and would probably go for that if they were both the same price and condition. If you don't like the interior of the red one you shouldn't spend all your money on it. I'm with you on wanting it to be an 850. The Ph1 V70 might be as good, or even better, but it's just not the same. I should stress that the above is just my feeling, I'm not an expert or anything.

Sadly the green T5-R has already gone. The R is still available however, so I'll go along and view it this week if poss. I've never even sat in one never mind driving it, so we'll see if I feel the same way after I physically try it out..

Haven't had a chance to view the red one yet (hoping to go this week) but have found another 850r hiding on a retro cars Facebook page for half the price.
The ad doesn't feel as legit as others but the price is good! https://www.facebook.com/groups/3908...54763397872605 |

An 850R would be a nice car.
And so would a 2009 to 2013 V70 / V60 / S60 D5 with the 205 or 215 BHP engines. You might want to check them out too. All nice cars. It's nice to have a choice. |
