The tyres and brakes I'm getting fixed through a friend so cost isn't a major issue for those but I'm a bit stuck regarding the airbag. I'm surprised so few have experienced this really. I wouldn't normally have fiddled with the airbag how ever I needed to fix the horn! Catch 22. Of course removing the cluster and taking the bulb put is easy but for MOT they test to make sure the SRS light works also, so I don't think that will work.

I've wanted to keep this car and slowly bring it back to its former glory and I can't believe a pesky SRS light is going to stop me but its not looking like there is an easy fix to this sadly

My friendly garage have an obd reader but last time they tried it on my car the newest car it went up too was an 850 so that's a no go also

Yes I am an organ doner.
Why is it so ridiculous, just to get an MOT and address the issue further down the line?
Half the people with 740s and earlier don’t have any airbags, do they?

Cheers

You might have to take the car to a Volvo garage as the SRS codes can only be read/erased by Volvo's proprietary diagnostics (VCT2000 as was).
Another option might be to find a forum member local to you that has a Vida / Dice setup. This is the latest Volvo diagnostics kit and I'm not sure if it will read 940 codes but it is worth a try.

I might have really cocked up here then as the nearest Volvo dealer is miles away!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it now

If anyone has this that i can either borrow or they can come to me, i'll happily pay costs, otherwise its looking like i might have to break up the car, which is a shame as its a good one and i was in the process of getting it back to its former glory, but i can't just have it sitting around abandoned so i either need to fix it or get it sold to someone who can. I dont want to sell it, however, if theres nothing more i can do, i have no choice.

It needs four tyres and front brake pads (which i was getting done before all this happened!) apart from that, its running great now.

Thanks
James

HI James.
Did you remove the steering wheel from the shaft?
If you did and fix it in a different position, 1 turn to the right or left, the slider in orange behind the steering wheel is gone.
They are sensible and will be damaged fast.
Dour you know how to handle a multimeter well?
The box of the SRS is on lhd cars under the driver seat. I can't remember the location of at rhd cars. Don't remove this! I will try to have a closer look at the wiring map if you are able to handle with a multimeter

If everything is fine you won't need a reset it the OBD 2 tool.
There is something wrong on the SRS system at your car.
Good luck, Kay

Thank you

Try phoning Volsaa engineering in Derby as they are a Volvo and Saab specialist and may know what the issue is or could advise. It may just need resetting on a code reader or fault code read, fixed etc?
https://volsaaengineering.com/

At least if you get this issue resolved get it MOT first before doing brakes etc.
Good luck. Would be a shame to part it out.

James

Thanks James I'll drop them an email tomorrow and see what they say. It would be a total shame to part it out. I've owned the car 6 years now and I'm slowly doing the car up. As I say brakes and tyres will get done if I can sort this light out as I'm getting those done cheaply thanks to a friend but of course I'm stuck in limbo at the moment. Derby isn't a million miles away from me so would be good if they could help. I'll email them tomorrow. I also have a Swedish car specialist round the corner from me so I've emailed them as well.

It would be good if I could get it through the MOT as at least then I can legally drive it!

Thank you

/edit - I've read that place has Vida which I think only works on '99 onwards cars but I'll drop them.an email anyway! It can't hurt can it!
