Aftermarket alarm imobiliser for v70
Hi All, when I bought
my V70 previous owner have disconnected the alarm siren and had no key fobs as car at the moment is unprotected no alarm. looking in options for sort this out I found out that in the best case scenario I will need to replace siren battery + 2 new fobs and use Vida and extra labour and software charge will cost me a lot. Any one out there with experience using a cheap aftermarket Chinese alarm imobiliser in this car . How complex is the process and wondering if possible to use the original Volvo central lock and internal volvo sensors to work in conjunction. An Chinese alarm imobiliser set including fobs can be found for near nothing on flybay. Would that be an alternative to replace the Volvo alarm imobiliser? Any experience on a particular alarm suitable for the job or an aftermarket keyless entry which may work with central locking system maybe in conjunction with or without conjunction or original alarm. This must be possible. Last edited by soares71; Aug 15th, 2018 at 11:34. |

A lot of these aftermarket alarms are crap and can give more bother than there worth.
Although it would be a cheap way of restoring your remote locking again. As for integrating the Volvo sensors with the cheapo alarm I'd suggest that maybe tricky and be labour intensive even if were possible.

What you have posted doesn't look correct
bearing in mind you mention VIDA I assume you have a MY99 onwards? Personally I wouldn't waste time or money on the siren! I have just disconnected mine... What you need is a late model Central locking unit & two fobs that are matched & that is it!

I got a central locking unit & two fobs from Minty for my 2005 model C70 from Minty, which sorted the central locking problem quickly and easily - re the alarm unit, it is possible to wire in a new battery by cutting the old unit open - there's lots of "how to do repair it" posts on the forum including these by cheshired5 for the alarm repair - https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=215942
which has a link to his YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm_q...o6dzg5FrSXScNg

I am wondering what is the most cost effective thing to do now. Problably just a central lock operated remotelly with new fobs would be the easiest and cheapest . Not sure if a system including alarm or imobiliser would make installation more complicated. Have you use the original volvo door actuator ? or do you need to open the doors and install new ones? |

Yes . Installing a new central locking unit with 2 fobs is the option i am contemplating at the moement. Did you mentioned a new volvo unit with fobs or an aftermarket one? If i find a unit for my car with 2 fobs for a reasonable price I would go for it. Otherwaise I may need to go for a flybay chinese one Last edited by soares71; Aug 23rd, 2018 at 13:47. |

I recently replaced the central control locking unit of my 2005 C70 which is the same unit used on the P2 V70's with a unit from a breaker that came complete with 2 key fobs - try "Minty" on this forum. The '98 V70 P1 has either the same unit used in the earlier 850s up to mid/late 1998 or the later '98 updated unit which is also used in some of the "cross-over" P2's - the C70 (850 based) uses the same unit 1998 to 2005. If you buy a second hand unit, that unit should come with the fob(s) which will be coded to it. The unit is a straight swap over and takes only a few minutes to do depending upon how easy you find it to get in under the dash immediately above the accelerator pedal in an RHD car. To check which unit you need use a mirror and torch to establish which unit you have - if you slide off the unit from its bracket without removing the multi-plugs it has just enough slack on the cables to be able to read the part number which makes sure you get the right replacement - you don't even need to slide it back on the bracket - it will just hang there on the cables until you can get a replacement.
