I am surprised an organisation such as Trading Standards or some such hasn't stepped and declared the T8 not fit for purpose and defective.
Who on Earth would see this as acceptable on any car, never mind one costing over £60K.

I hope Volvo sort this out soon - it really shouldn't have passed the testing phase

I think it has to be an awful lot more serious before trading standards or VOSA really care...

The software issues being highlighted here and on SwedeSpeed remind of the early days of Windows when making a simple change to one thing could stop something else from working properly or indeed bork the PC completely. Even something as simple as plugging in a new USB device could cause major problems back then.

I just wonder if Volvo underestimated the size of the task in getting various modules and components from different suppliers to talk to each other. It took Microsoft a decade to get Windows to a stable state...

Similar/same problem as the OP: http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthr...73#post3794873

Not impressed that the connector broke so easily. Perhaps something to be aware of unless that guy was being particularly ham-fisted.

Lexman. I dont have a swedespeed login but i notice that you do. Perhaps you can pass this on. I too am puzzled by needing to pull more than just the negative terminal off but when I removed the negative lead all systems still worked - puzzling and counter intuitive but that is what happened. My assumption is that the systems battery (the 12v one in the boot) and the traction battery (the 400v one down the tunnel) have a common negative ground and that the 400v battery can feed the 12v battery through a transformer. This would mean that removing the negative does not break the circuit. Only removing the postive feed to the circuits breaks the circuit. This is, however, just my theory based on my basic electrics/physics/electronics knowledge and my experience. 2 spanners now live in my car and at less than 4 quid it is money well spent.

Your theory makes perfect sense. The system could be designed so that the 400v battery can charge the 12v one if/when it's charge gets low.

I'll certainly pass it on.

Hi guys,

I'm new here so forgive me if I'm asking for the same things as others, I find it a little bit hard on this website to find info.

My XC90 T8 is doing the same thing, everything looks like the car is working but I can't change the gears and they don't show up on the display.

I'm waiting for it to be towed but it's on the handbrake and I can't find anywhere how you can manually overwrite it so if anyone knows how to do this I would be very thankful.

Thanks,

Danny

Twist and hold the start button. The gear selector should display. Then get in neutral. Then press the brake pedal and try to take off the handbrake.

Or try a battery reset as described in this thread. See if that works then post the outcome.

Has your Car had the latest software updates, just I am due a service soon and I know the software will be updated, and lets face it last time the software was updated it broke things, can't be doing with the hassle, just seems they never test software correctly before it is released to public, although I do not have a tow bar on mine. (mine also XC60 T8)
