Update...
OK So I had a day off today and chased this up via Twitter with Volvo UK Customer Relations who replied pretty quickly and were very helpful. The directed me to the relevant department (Warranty Admin) and I spoke with a chap there who confirmed that Volvo DO offer a 2yr extension to the standard warranty which covers up to 100k miles or 5 years (whichever comes first) at a cost of £845.
So £254 cheaper than the third party dealer warranty that I had been offered. Interestingly, the official Volvo warranty is administered by Car Care Plan - as is the dealer warranty - so it could be the same product with a dealer markup perhaps. Not sure. I'll be taking the 'official' one for £845 though thats for sure. Slightly disappointed that I wasn't presented with both options by my dealer but i'll let them off as they are lending me a V90 Inscription tomorrow to play with purely out of interest in the car.

Might also be worth checking 'warranty direct' - they also cover wear and tare items - they guys on the discovery 3 & 4 forums swear by them.

I assume so, up to 100k miles? I was under the impression that it was an extension of the original warranty as it's the proper Volvo one. I'll double check of course but that's the assumption I was working on.

Frank As it happens I didn't claim anything in the 2 years but as I'd had a circa 3K claim under the original warranty the peace of mind was worth every penny Last edited by Boatie; Jan 21st, 2017 at 20:09. |

Be careful with the wording on the extended policy. I took out one when my 3yr cover expired on my V70 and it covered much less than the OEM one. I got stung by it to (cant remember what exactly now) and they refused to pay out on something. The wording difference was very subtle.
As an example, 'audio equipment' wasnt covered on the extended one. Not sure how that would work with Sensus!

I've dug out the extended policy document and so far as I can see it does not exclude radio/entertainment system Page 3. "All major mechanical and electrical parts cover. We list all parts that are not covered. You are covered for everything else" Page 13 Exclusions.( I've paraphrased some of it) Police Service Hire/reward service Performance modified vehicles (I can see no mention of Polestar) Routine services, adjustments , repairs regarded as normal maintenance Anything covered by other insurance Depreciation, loss of earnings, bodily injury Mechanical damage of failure caused by:- frost, corrosion flooding, vandalism etc etc Where defect is likely to have existed prior to commencement of policy Resulting from lack of antifreeze, lubricants, hydraulic fluid or faulty servicing Caused by the ingress of foreign matter, or the use of a grade of fuel, lubricant, additives or any fluid not recommended by the manufacturer In my opinion all pretty standard exclusions in insurance terms. Bear in mind the policy was issued about 2 years ago against a V70. The insurance company was Motors Insurance Company Ltd and it was administered by Car Care Plan Ltd Happy to look at the document to answer any specific questions. Frank Sorry for any typo/spelling errors Re-read Razers post. Razer, was it a Volvo warranty? I remember when I took mine out I looked at Warrant Direct? and it seemed to have exclusions and generally make one jump through hoops in the event of a claim Last edited by Boatie; Jan 22nd, 2017 at 09:49. |

This. Time to google up online on Dealers not honoring the extended warranty because "this item was not covered by this warranty". They can say whatever they want and when time comes to pay for the repair, good luck. Just talking about this specific offer, it is a scam right out of the box with the words they use. I would much rather buy an ext. warranty from the main dealer IF it is clearly specified which items are covered in detailed and very concise words. With this in mind, I would definitely recommend an extended warranty on a car such as the new XC90. By the past, Volvo has shown at repeated times they could not care less about major design flaws that surface just after their very short warranty expires, causing owners to pay literally thousands out of their pocket for items that should have never been an issue. Volvo is the worst company when it comes to take responsibility and they do make costly mistakes in their designs.
