Default Correct oil/capacity for D5

Hi

Can anyone please tell me how much and what type of oil should go in the engine of my XC60 D5. I am aware that the level can increase due to DPF regeneration/short journeys.

Cheers

SAE 0W-30

ACEA A5/B5

Make sure it is A5/B5 rated though more than anything, there are many 0W-30 oils but not that many A5/B5 rated ones.

If you are going down the Castrol Edge route make sure you get the for Volvo cars version which is A5/B5, not the mercedes Vw etc. one which is not. The bottles and labels look almost identical.

Professional merely has a UV dye in it.

Capacity including filter appears to be 5.9 litres.

If that is the ACTUAL capacity is it not the case that the oil should be filled 3/4?

It won't be quite 5.9 as that is total, it depends how much you get out the sump, the 3/4 rule as far as I knew only applied to earlier d5's.

Only the D5244T10 is 5.9 litres , The system is very sensitive to overfilling and will Post an "ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" message which will result in a visit to the dealer , if it goes over the max by even an egg cup full, it really is that sensitive so 5.6 litres in all D5 will be a safe fill rule . see what the gauge says after 20 miles then monitor it for altering up or down every 1000 miles .
