Driving style is mostly flat out and a lot of that down rough back roads.

You can use old US Ford wheels that are wider to better accept that sort of size tyre for day to day driving

Thank you all for your opinions. I would love to get the 165 tires, 155 would seem to me that it would look small (I have an MG in which I did that and everytime I see it it seems small tired!).

If I prefer to go the opposite, larger, and try to find the closest to the original 165, what would the reccomended modern equivalent measurement be?

I don't think there is a "recommended" modern equivalent because those officials who would have to recommend would be worried the tyre would come off the wheel.

If you look back in the thread, however, folks are saying other sizes will work - can't really consider it to be an official recommendation though

If you're into looks then I reckon you're best off importing the right size aren't you?

The nearest bigger would be 175 r15 probably worse to get hold of as its an obscure size. 175/70 would be next but thats same height as 155 though wider.
Best import some really!
