Quick question, do you need to disconnect the battery in order to replace the solenoid? Is it a 10 minute job?

Thanks,
Adrian
Hi!

I did not disconnect the battery, i dont think it matter if you do or dont.
No, i wouldnt say it is a 10min job. It depends.
It was really really tight to get to the 4 screws with a screwdriver.
You cant reach the screws when they are unscrewed.. they can dissapear if you dont have a magnetized screwdriver. The screws can be reached and pulled but you need to dismantle some stuff around the plate. Like hoose clamps and stuff like that. It was one screw that was really really hard to get to and it was located top right. Connectors, hooses, cables and stuff was blocking the wat to the screwhead.. so i manished to fiddle around with everything and finally were able to get to the screw in a kind of angle... not optimal.
I dont know any other way to get to those 4 screws. There are no instructions about this what i have found.

Smile P2008 solenoid fault. Same fault and fix on Fords.

Hi.

I have had this fault on a recently purchased Ford Focus. I have written a detailed write up of my experience of a Ford Focus forum. From what I have read here, it seems the fault, fix and parts are the same as for Volvo. Not surprising really as the cars are based on the same design.

Have a look at the link below and it should help you work out how to diagnose and cheaply fix the fault. You can get the parts from E-bay for £29.99 including P&P. A VERY cheap fix and not difficult to do.

Hi guys.

You really helped me, so I want to help you

If your car was manufactured between 1999-2009 you can use Ford swirl solenoid, because Ford Company was the owner. I did it, because Volvo part was too expensive for me.

Part number for Ford is: 5243591. I spent 27 GBP. I think it is OEM part, because genuine part cost about 90GBP, Volvo geniune part cost about 70-80 GBP.

I replaced swirl solenoid about 2 weeks ago, and everythink works without a problem. I passed MOT

Solenoid replacement takes about 10 minutes. My friend helped me, and it was very easy to do.

Remember one thing: make the photo before unplugging the 4 small hoses with air

Good luck

hI Toms,

i had a guy come out and said I had error code 2008 (I assume P2008) - he cleaned the area around then suggested a replacement throttle unit (£££).. I saw this thread and it seems this makes sense. Where did you get your part from? I am in the UK so am guessing you are too, so if you can send me details, I would appreciate it. Going to attempt this myself. I saw a Youtube on this and some guy said that the Gears and Camshaft can be affected by not fixing this problem...not sure how gears can be affected, but mine are very hard to change when the car is slow, any ideas?...

Look at this from point 2:05 onwards...
