V50 2.0 d se **jerking **help **
i have a V50 2.0d SE 2006 with only 38000 on the clock,
just recently is started to jerk at certain speeds . i wouldnt call it a misfire .(maybe a stumbling ) hard to explain. in idle this doesnt happen ,idle is fine .it doesnt happen when im on a motorway doing between 50-70 mph in 5th or 6th gear.. Only seems to happen if i'm running around town especially doing around 30mph in 3rd gear thats when its the worse.its not cutting out / stalling or anything like that .when it starts doing it and i accelerate it stops .it doesnt do it when i take my foot of the acceleration pedal .just at a constant speed. I have no warning lights on .i have taken it out on a open road and given it a blow out in 1st 2nd third gears (red lining every gear) i get no black / blue smoke from the exhaust .its driving me mad as my wife thinks im doing it on purpose (she doesnt drive). Can anyone here give me any advice, apart from take it to a dealer thats going to cost a fortune ...maybe point me in the right direction as to what to check . thanks in advance |

First thing I would do is change fuel filter, check for air in fuel lines and check fuel filter housing for any air leaks

After the above you want to check on throttle body and give the EGR Valve a clean out.

Mine was doing the same and getting progressively worse. Turned out it was the fuel filter and runs like a dream for only £60 at the local garage.

Hi
just a update .had the fuel filter changed at a Volvo specialist garage .but the jerking is still happening. Doesn't seem to happen when its cold .once the temperature gauge has got to around halfway it seems to start with the jerking . Could anyone give me any advice as to what to do next as its getting to me now .makes me not wanting to drive the car at the moment .gone from loving it to hating it. Still no management light on either. someone told me to get some Millers fuel additive and try that. Any advice on using that. thanks again |

If your car is DPF equipped then this could be your problem
Do you have a trip computer where you can see your current fuel consumption ? I think this could be a constant regeneration due to clogged DPF (and this will not always give fault codes) , since the regenration doesn´t happen until the engine reaches above 60 degrees celsius. To test this drive the car from cold on a nice strech of road (as little up&down hill as possible) , drive with a constant speed and watch the consumption , as soon as the engine warms up (or the jerkiness begins) look if the consuption increases (mpg drop) if it drops by like 10-20 mpgs then this is regeneration and it will make the engine behave lika e stumble , misfire during normal cruising if this is the case then you will have 2 choices , get the dpf cleaned / changed and eolys topped up (expensive 400-800 £ ) or get the darn thing removed by a good tuner (less expensive but will still set you back 200-300 £). |

Hi
to respond to the above ..I have found out that my V50 does not have DPF. So this cant be the problem..Next is to check the EGR valve is not blocked, if the EGR is blocked or not working correctly wouldnt this turn the management light on ? Also wouldnt the jerking be doing it all the time ...Like i say on a motorway doing anywhere between 50-70 - 80 mph this isnt happening. i have not seen any drop in mpg either .I have ordered some Millers additive so am going to try that and see if it clears ,if not back to the drawing board .. thanks again |

Surprised that you do not have DPF on a 2006
If thats the case and your looking at the EGR valve you could try blanking it off, Blanking plates available on fleabay for about a fiver, quick and easy job |
