If thats the case and your looking at the EGR valve you could try blanking it off,
Blanking plates available on fleabay for about a fiver, quick and easy job
Well i rang the Volvo dealers and gave them my Reg number and asked them to find out if it had a DPF and they rang me back and told me it didnt ..think i might check myself just to make sure...

Regarding the blanking plate .Seen them on ebay so before i start taking things apart i might get a plate and blank it off .If the jerking stops then at least i will know what the problem is

You could make a temporary blanking plate out of a coke/beer can, simple enough to do, and see what results you get

You will need to get the EGR deleting from the ECU. If you just add a blanking plate you will get an error and the car will go into limp mode and will need resetting. On EURO 3 models you can just unplug the lead connected to the sensor but not on the EURO 4 which I believe yours is.

what else to check as its still doing it.
had fuel filter changed
cleaned throttle body
cleaned egr and pipe going to egr.
No DPF
checked all pipes .
no error light on dash
Im wondering if its a bad batch of diesel ,or maybe something I have overlooked .

Its starting to annoy me now

Question

Had the same thing on my car. One of the valves in the throttle body was stuck shut. Gave it a good clean and it's like driving a new car.

hi all
just a update ..Car was at a Volvo Specialist garage today to try figure out what this on going fault is.. guess what they couldn't find anything wrong .they put it on a computer there were no error codes .took it for a test drive nothing. Told me there was some bubbles appearing in the fuel line ,but nothing to worry about !!!!!!.

But when I collected the car drove 2 miles and the jerking /misfire happened to me typical...

What I have been hearing recently is a high pitched noise coming from the drivers side rear .somewhere below the diesel cap .this happens randomly not when to car is moving or turned on .its like the tank is de pressurising or something .the noise lasts for about 1minute .it wont do it again (or at least I don't think it does) until I've been out for a drive again ..when I open the diesel cap I do hear air or pressure release ..

looking for info or advice again Sorry......

Martin

Hi

Have you solved your problem?
Have you tried to blank the EGR?

I have almost the same problem. My 2.0D jerks in 2nd and 3rd gear ocasionaly between 2.800 and 3.100 RPM.
I always happens when the engine is at working temperature (temperature indicator at half way). If I turn off the car for half an hour it stops jerking, until it reaches the half temperature.
Jerking disapears for a week or two and then again for half a day. And then gain nothing.
It happens with 1/3 throttle. If I press it down full way it stops jerking and accelerate as it has to. It is just if I stay at a constant throttle. I have changed the complete throttle body, but no way.

I have tried to:
1.) all filters, oil, ....
2.) remove DPF (software + hardware)
3.) disconnect the EGR valve (my is a EURO 4 - 2010 and there is no error if I disconnect it)
4.) change the gas peddal
5. Checking a few tubes

Nothing works

any idea. I have disconnected the EGR valve, but not blanked it out. Can this be the problem that the the EGR is not closed enough or at a certain vibration it slightly opens, producing jerks?

Any other thing to try?

My car is in shop now and its been doing this before i had it remapped. but since remap it had killed 2 injectors, and so far its had a new fuel filter which metal bits were found in my filter but besides this you could be looking at leak off pipes on the injectors leaking back to much fuel reducing rail pressure or failing air/pressure sensor. Worse case the actual fuel pump its self.

could be a dodgy connection on a fuel injectors causing a misfire, i have seen that happen before ( remove electrical contacts on injectors and clean or spay them with electrical cleaner
