I was thinking the same thing.. I don't think the car is able to check the timing.. I think I will just get the car to a volvo garage to get them to fix it... I'm not able to do that stuff myself as I don't have the necessary tools/knowledge for this either..
No worries about the highjacking☺️ although I won't really be able to help you out.. Hopefully someone else here will! I will update this post when I know what was wrong. Thanks for the help! |

Allright, back to business :-) the dealer checked the timing belt and it was on correctly.. 200euros down the drain but at least now I know.. He suggests, since he has an old 2.0d engine in the shop anyway, to systematically start changing parts to see which one is the defective one, each time letting me test the car with no cost for parts until the problem is found so that seems reasonable.. . He replaced the air mass sensor, nothing changed, tomorrow he is going to replace both turbo valves.. An one any ideas?

Turbovlves weren't the problem either, I'm thinking more and more that one or more injectors are the problem, they all work according to vida but the engine itself doesn't have "any" power until the turbo comes in... If I'm driving at around 2000rpm and I floor it, I can feel that the power only comes on when the turbo is up and running.. I would think a 2litre engine would already have a lot of power by itself at this rpm... Correct?

Hi
Have you read the fault codes? If there are any they might help. If there are any, note them down then just clear them, give it a run and see what comes back Iain |

No fault codes, that indeed would have been a lot easier :-)

Small update, I drove the exact same car last weekend from a friend and noticed couple of thing, when in neutral I floor it for about one second, his car goes over 4000rpm, mine just above 3000, I also notices my engine kind of whistles a lot louder when the turbo comes on. Then, the driving itself, in first and second gear not mich of a difference but in third, starting at 1500rpm and flooring it, in the beginning the cars have the same power but when hitting between 2500 and 3000rpm, his car keeps on accelerating faster up until about 4000-4500rpm while mine stays kind of the same in that range... Any ideas from this description?
They are going to switch the vacuum pumps with a secondhand car they have in the garage to see if that makes any difference but any help from here would obviously be much appreciated☺️ |

If your car won't rev above 3000rpm it's in limp mode and should have fault codes.
Is it smokey when driving? Sound like a possible air intake leak however I would like to think a Volvo specialist could spot that. I would also like to think a Volvo specialist would have a more exact diagnostic method than a parts cannon!!
