Default New owner help with My Car

Hello
Hope someone can help a newbie. I am the proud owner of an xc60 bought a few days ago from brother in law when he bought a new xc60 t5 Mine is an r design d4 registered in 2014.
I simply cannot get the 'my car' button to open the menus. I have tried key both in and out engine both on and off. I have tried the centre console button and the wheel on the steering wheel . Nothing happens! I am reluctant to tell b-in-law as he will feel bad if it's broken. What am I doing wrong?

Oh dear, doesn't sound good

All you should need to do is press the 'My Car' button with the ignition switches on and you should see the menu in the centre screen.

Are all the other functions working? Does the radio display on the screen, if you change the cabin temp does that show, etc?

If the do could it simply be something stuck behind the switch stopping it from going home properly? Or perhaps another button is down preventing the system from seeing any other button press?

I don't know if any other ways into the Menu structure other than what you are doing and pressing the centre of the button on the right of the steering wheel.

Ask brother in law to show you how 'My Car' works - if it doesn't work he has demonstrated the fault & can offer to rectify, if it does work no problem - win/win!

Thanks so much for that. I never realised that it was a two button operation. The manual doesn't make it clear, well not to me. I just expected to press my car and see something happen. One other thing in case anyone else is looking for this which I discovered by accident. The radio button also has to be on as this is required as a start up to the whole system. You live and learn. I expect there will be some more learning to do!!!!

Welcome to Volvo....
It's part of Volvo's charm (not). The car assumes you're an enthusiast and therefore are prepared to learn all its foibles instantly. After you've mastered that, it's possible you'll find some Good Things and wonder how you managed before.

Seriously methinks it is a challenge for any vehicle manufacturer to fit all markets, especially as all the bells-and-whistles that are now demanded get more complicated in themselves.
