Cool XC60 Mirror Puddle Lights

Hi All,

Fairly new to this forum, my wife and I recently purchased a 2017 XC60 R-Design and whilst researching it I came across quite a few threads on the net regarding the puddle lights located within the mirrors; specifically, how to replace the lamps.

Ours came with halogen lamps in both the mirrors and the rear number plate with a colour temperature of roughly 2700k, given that these didn’t match the DRL’s I decided to change them to 5000k LED lamps.

A number of posts had suggested the only way to do this was to remove the mirror glass and replace the lamp from the inside, I felt uneasy pulling the mirror glass out of our ‘67 plate car so wanted to find a better way.

With the mirrors folded there is a small tab at the base of the unit where it hinges, I found by placing a small flathead screwdriver through this tab I was able to release the lamp cover and holder.

Once out, the lamp was quick to replace and I was able to complete both in under 10 minutes although I would recommend placing masking tape over the areas to avoid scratching the plastic.

For the number plate lights, I used a T20 bit to unscrew the covers then a small flathead screwdriver to ease the cover off from the weather seal. I found the new LED lamps were a fraction smaller than the existing halogen lamps which could have resulted in them either working loose so I gently squeezed the pins together for a better fit and they’ve worked great since.

Now to decide what to do next...
