Default Serpentine belt idler pulley replacement.

Hi, the idler pulley ( not the one on the tensioner )on the serpentine (auxiliary) belt of my Tdi seem to be causing a 'chirp' from the belt for a few minutes on start up. Loosening the belt I can feel some resistance to movement when I try to rotate the pulley by hand so I've got a new one on order. Is changing it on a V70 97 TDI as easy as it looks - just a matter of undoing the central bolt or is something else involved?

Cheers

John

Hy,
I've done this the last week. As you say, yes, it's quite easy. You have to slacken the belt and put it away from de steering pump, then, unscrew (12), the pulley bolt and get it out. I would have a look to the belt by the way.

Cheers.

I had to extract the bracket to replace it just because this pulley slowly unscrewed by itself and destroyed the screw thread. It was cheaper than lay 1000 £ to extract the engine at the garage, and place a helicoil with a new M8 size ring.
