1998 V70 Tdi loud engine
hi guys, my i purchased my v70 today and noticed on the way home that the engine seems to be a bit noisy.
under load when she gets to around 2,500-3,00rpm there is a loudish knocking / clanking noise and then as the revs drop the noise goes, it is making this noise at a stand still if i rev it. my xsara and my c5 both did this but not as loud. any ideas what it could be. thanks David |

Possibly the vacuum pump for the brake servo? it's driven from the camshaft and can get a bit clattery as it gets older

This would certainly be a feature of the 900 model, was not aware that it shared the characteristic with the ?renault. Mine certainly does it and it can be loud, but inconstant. Other than finding a member or mechanic familiar with the engine the only way of finding out would be to source a spare or refurbished one.
