Unhappy Gears gone missing

Minding my own business - park up - start off again and suddenly i cant find 1st 2nd or reverse gear and i have a flappy gearstick 1998 S40 1.8i manual - been as good as gold till then. Any ideas?

The gear linkage bushes have become warn - a well documented problem.

When these are replaced you will find the the gear linkage becomes much tighter.

there are several write ups about this on this and other sites.

As above , will be linkage bushes, cheap easy repair and when done your car will be as "new" again.

Default Transformation

I bought the kit of parts to cure the sloppy gear change some time ago.
Never got around to fit it until yesterday.
What a transformation ! ! It seems to be a new car when changing gear.
I did the joint beneath the gear lever and the joint at the gearbox.

Once jacked up and supported well, it only took 15 minutes to do the job using an 11mm spanner and an 11mm socket.
Using a "search", there is a really well explained procedure on this site.
