S40 1.6 XS Issues
Hi all!
New to this forum so still finding my feet but really pleased I joined...finding some great stuff on here! Anyway, after just over 1 year of ownership and trouble-free motoring, the Volvo XS 1.6 'X Reg' that was passed down from my grandparents to me is starting to have some issues; not least, rolling down driveways on its own volition! Hopefully, that issue has now been sorted...roughly £300 has been spent after having new pads, discs and callipers fitted. Now, I'm experiencing a few minor niggles which have nevertheless become costly repairs after speaking with my local Volvo dealer & ATS. Issue 1 As you can see, the gear gaiter has come away from the centre console because the clips have become brittle and snapped away. Every time I change gear, the gaiter moves, which is a little unsettling! Was quoted £46.50 excluding VAT for a new one from Volvo! Have been down a scappies but we could not manage to get the gaiter off the gear leaver, was if it had been soldered on! I have tried super strength glue but the clips are just too brittle and have snapped off...Any ideas where I could get a cheap replacement? Issue 2 I recently visited ATS to get my tyre looked at (ties into Issue 3) as I was experiencing low tyre pressure in driver side rear. I was told that there was no apparent puncture in the tyre, rather that the corroded alloy wheel was causing air leakages in the tyre and that I should get it refurbished (at a cost of £50 excluding VAT)..anyway, I paid a tenner just to get the corrosion removed as I was told by a different mechanic that this will do the job and that there was absolutely no need to start refurbishing my alloys...do you think this "cheap" fix will last? I was thinking of it getting it replaced anyway as it is showing its age on the outside as seen in the below pictures...any cheap ones available in good condition or is there no point now I've had the corrosion sawn off? Issue 3 After taking the wheel off to check its pressure, the mechanic told me that I would have to sacrifice my centre cap...needless to say my grandparents have shown there artistic side by gluing all four centre caps in because they brought the wrong size...then I made the same mistake by buying a set of 4 brand new caps which looked identical to me but I failed to measure the hole hence they don't fit...looks like I need 55 inch caps instead of these 64 inch I got...Volvo quoted a tenner for one! Has anyone got any ideas where I can get the correct ones for my model cheap? Thanks for any help all! PS Ooops. I have posted in the wrong age forum, not sure if this could be moved?
