Default XC60 Tuning Problem

This week I took my 61 plate XC60 for a RICA remap. The model is the D3 [163] 2.4 which I believe was then rebadged D4. At 70,000 it's now out of warranty so chose the RICA over the more expensive Polestar as performance and results on paper look a lot better.

After having the car for the day the garage told me that unfortunately Manufacturer help is needed in tuning my car and that there is only a 50% chance that this may even be possible.

Does anybody have any more experience in this and are there any other options open to me.

When looking at the BSR site and typing in my chassis number it said I need a PINcode before they can do it????

Any help appreciated.

The PIN code was introduced to prevent unauthorised access and 3rd party tuning companies being able to flash a map on to the ECU.

I may be wrong but I think that a Polestar map is your only option

Thanks for suggesting Archer but the performance they quote does't seem that great compared to the official polestar. Is there a way of getting this pin code?

I don't think so, there is a trader who posts here periodically whinging about Volvo and others locking out people from the ECU.

I have to say that it makes eminent sense to me given the complexity of the software and the inter-related safety systems - not to mention the legislation on emissions.

Indeed there must be a reason , what if the cylinder head gasket is pretty near the limit already for example ... we don't know all the facts ,The 2 litre 5 cylinder diesels are pretty highly tuned already . Then there is the new word litigation from volvo's point of view .

To be fair, all decent tuning companies will carry out comprehensive testing of the car BEFORE they even consider remapping.
This will normally consist of mechanical checks, live data logging during a test drive and also where suitable a rolling road test. If the car shows any issues they will not remap the car but instead advise on what needs to be done in order to rectify any problems.
I would however advise anybody to avoid tuning boxes at all costs, they are totally useless and in some cases bloody dangerous!!

and this is what the company was in the process of doing when they discovered that they couldn't talk to the unit. Also the reason why I was only looking at decent remap software, RICA, Polestar, BSR which I know has been tried and tested and specifically designed for the engine.

I did upgrade in the dealer of the PSChiptuning here and I'm very contented!
With the only difference he do the upgrade with the ECU out to avoid these problems.
The result is from 205HP to 240HP and from 43kgm to 55kgm of torque over 4.300 rpm!
And with out increase the pressure of the turbo's or the fuel.
Over this it will be problem with DPF.
