"I would however advise anybody to avoid tuning boxes at all costs, they are totally useless and in some cases bloody dangerous!!"

Whilst I would avoid the fifty quid "resistor-in-a-box" eBay offerings, there are plenty of reputable and long established manufacturers of tuning boxes which do an excellent job. Many offer a 30day trial period so you can see if they work for you. I'd agree that a re-map is the best way to go but if that is not possible then a good box would be a viable alternative. I've fitted several to various diesel company cars (Ford, Mercedes, VW) where I wasn't allowed to remap and they have performed well. Worth doing some research on this topic before dismissing them out of hand.

Mercedes Brabus upgrade is a tuning box. Albeit a damn expensive one. Makes Polestar quite a bargain.

Thanosgr what was the extra insurance cost for a 20% increase?

Russ. If your company wouldn't allow you to remap the car why put tour job at risk for a few extra bhp?

Actually, it was the leasing company that weren't keen - but they never knew about the boxes...

All tuning boxes do is trick the management system by altering feedback variables externally ie either by resistors or a stand alone ecu, the problem with this is that the proper management system is reacting to false values which effectively de-calibrates the system thus making it ineffective, more often than not unstable and certainly in the long term poor value for money (especially as there is the potential for damage).
I'm not sure what research you refer to but what I can tell you is that the general consensus among many experts is ..... leave well alone!

What they quote is what they believe is a safe increase in power. Archer will tune the car the way you want it. If you want them to push the limits of what the engine will produce they will. Easily match the power quoted by other tuning companies ...
