Default Rear door won't open

Hello,

The rear driver side passenger door is now refusing to open on my 2016 XC90 T8. A quick google has come up with this being a common problem.

Before I contact the dealer and go down that route which I believe could be quite expensive are there any things I could try myself to fix the problem ?

Also has anyone any ideas how much a new lock fitted will cost ?

Thanks.

Get the car scanned for DTCs and see if there's one for that particular door lock; clear it if there is and see if it then works. I know that low battery voltage could throw up all sorts of spurious codes on P2 models when the battery was low, usually including various door locks. Don't know if the same same applies on later models.

If you haven't got a scanner yourself but have got a windows laptop lying about you could try downloading VDASH and registering it. That will allow you to read the codes and, hopefully, delete them.

I had this issue recently on my back passenger side door. No matter what I tried it would just not open. Then I gave it a little push just beneath the door handle more towards the edge a few times. Enough to make the car rock a little and it unfroze what ever was preventing the look from opening. It’s been fine since. Maybe the latch grease has dried out and it jams after no use for a while who knows. Give it a try?

Regards
Slapz

Doesn't work first time but he knows that it is the bad connection on that wiring.

Had exactly the same on my 2016 XC90 last year, passenger side rear door just decided it wasn’t gonna open any more out of the blue.
Took it into my local Volvo dealer who replaced the lock mechanism
Luckily it was covered under the Volvo Selekt warranty, so no cost, otherwise it would have been ~£600 + labour

Hi there,

How did you solve your problem at the end? My rear passenger side door has the same issue now, and I am not under warranty anymore .

Also, does anyone know where can I get a replacement part for this issue if necessary?

Thanks in advance.
