Default V90 Windscreen replacement

It had to happen sooner or later - nasty stone crack on my screen needs full screen replacement. Insurers tied to National Windscreens. Initially set an appointment for a couple of days after booking, but this was aborted when I attended the fitting centre (interesting to note the racks of obviously chinese screens). Subsequent call from Nat windscreens and apparently it's a dealer only part (heated, pilot assist etc), has to be OEM and comes from Sweden on 3 weeks lead time.

That's OK as it's driveable. Spoke to my dealer (Rybrook Preston) they don't stock the screen and agreed it has to come from Sweden, so no advantage there. Also, service guy there had no qualms about Nat Windscreens doing it.

We wait. I'll update again in due course.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with National Windscreens.
I had the screen in my XC90 replaced (eventually) by Autoglass and they were absolutely shambolic. They were incapable of identifying the correct screen and I had a number of wasted trips to the fitting centre, whilst being fobbed off by an equally ineffective 'customer help' department...

Do check that the screen National fit does have the correct features, and they don't just find one that fits.

Every Volvo dealer has to have a technician Trained to change volvo Windscreens properly to factory standards.

Clan makes an excellent point, just bear in mind that you'll probably have to pay the full price (I think mine was around £1200 quoted), not just the excess via insurance unless your policy allows dealer replacement. Mine didn't.

Nor would mine approve my Volvo dealer replacing the screen. I went to National and have to say the service was very good and they fitted an OEM screen, at least it had all the logos that were on the original one.

Coordinator at National Windscreens central was excellent (thanks Bridin!). Confirmed it would have to be a dealer part and would have to be ordered. Scheduled to be in Sweden by 4th, Preston by 15th.

Screen via sweden delayed again, not expected to leave sweden until 21st. Nat Windscreens went on the trawl as I really did need to get it fixed, and found an AGC screen https://www.agc-arg.com/en/page/331/agc-automotive They said they would not offer a chinese non OEM screen but that AGC was an OEM equivalent.

Job done today - screen looks identical - heated elements look identical, all pilot assist etc AOK.

I found National Windscreens helpful with good communication - no issues at all.

That's good to know, after reading numerous horror stories about windscreen replacements. Who is the insurer, if you are happy to say?

Great to hear that service was done correctly.

Presumably, if the car is insured with Volvo this all goes away?
