I've lost almost 3mm, my wear is per side.... so I'm already sub 9mm thickness, yet still have lots of lining on the pad.....4mm

Then according to VIDA you need to replace the rear discs.

The replacement limits are there for a very very good reason.
And you don't ever ever in your life want to experience a disc braking into multiple pieces during vehicle braking because it was under the wear limit.
Yes there is a safety margin.
But now you know the wear is well over the limit, you need to act responsibly and replace the discs.
Most garages recommend new pads at the same time so that the pads and discs wear in together.

Quite normal with original Volvo discs and pads. I changed mine for a set of Spec from a local motor factor. Braking was still good but didn't get black wheels and disc and pads lasted well.

Interesting. Doesn't seem very much though!

Agreed.... + pads too
But
Bearing in mind the low mileage (31K) I got from the original discs, do I stick with Volvo or twist to another (probably) cheaper option, and if so whats the suggestion/advice?

Cheers

I think you are using the wrong pedal when you are driving.
I replaced the pads on my front axle after 170000 km and on the rear after 200000 km. Which is 105000 miles and 124000 miles, respectively.
How long the discs will last I don't know yet.

I use mintex disks front and rear on my xc70, mintex pads on the front ,Volvo on the rear.

Cost difference was north of 50%, especially the disks. Car passed mot brake test easily and stops well with no drama, solo or towing. In short I can see no difference except I saved a lot of £s. Done 8k miles so far with no discernable wear ridge on either front or rear disks.

Paul.
