Unusually high wear of rear discs.
2015MY V70 D5 Manual 31k .
Today I have noticed that my rear brake discs are excessively worn. I knew they were worn at the back of last year when I did my 3yr service, but left the brakes till the warmer weather; so its not a sudden wearing. The discs appear worn below the 9mm "renew" thickness, as they have 1-2mm deep narrow ridges on the inner and outer edges where the pads have not swept. The pads still have about 4mm on them. Is this the new norm or have I just a fault? I have never felt this car drag its brakes, and I do know what that feels like. The fronts, while not perfect appear to be far far less worn than the rears. By comparison my 2004 V70 AWD R has just had its second set of rear disc at 110K. Euro car parts (not my 1st port of call - prefer Volvo) have a complete setup from Brembo @ just shy of £90. Worth it? Cheers Bob |

Not unusual. Quite a few posts on this if you search.
My rear pads on my 58 plate V70 first at 19k miles, but it was my company car so I wasn’t arguing the toss with my dealer as there was a good bit of meat left. When I bought the car and stretched the use, my second set gave me 28k and they where down below 2mm by then. Depending on your style of driving, but I’d say 31k is normal, and better than I got. In comparison I got nearly 50k out of my front pads. |

Automatic parking brakes have always worn out my rear discs quickly, they seem to drag before releasing when you start off.

My rear discs are on 55k (2 sets of pads). The third set of pads went on at 50k and my Indy who is in no rush to change parts, ummmed and arrrred before deciding to leave the existing discs on for a bit longer. So, if like mine, the rear discs should get you a minimum of 2 sets of pads. |

Original rear pads just replaced on my 2013 V70 Geartronic at 35k. Discs seem fine.

Front discs lasted longer on my MY2011 D3 than the rears. Fronts just been replaced at 108k miles (original discs were still on). Rears will need replacing soonish.
I had a 2006 Passat with EPB, that got through rear discs twice as fast as front discs. So basically both of my last two cars have got through rear discs twice as fast as fronts. |

My issue is not that that I'm wearing rear pads out faster than fronts ( although in 40+motoring I've not come across this before) Its the fact that the pads are wearing the rear discs faster than the disc wears the pads!!
Because of my issue I was considering moving away from the main dealer parts to Brembo, or similar. hence my question/request for comments on that topic. Cheers Bob |

1-2mm wear on your discs is hardly replacement territory, no?
