Default Headlights staying on after removing key from ignition.

Hello.

I have a slightly irritating intermittent fault with my V50.

Every now and then (perhaps once per month), I remove the key from the car and note that the headlights have stayed on.

The only way to stop this is to put the key back into the ignition slot and pull it out again and the lights go off.

Could anyone possibly suggest the cause and how I might remedy this?

I am slightly worried that I will get caught out, one day, and end up with a flat battery.

Hi There,
could it possibly be you are pressing the home safe button on the remote when you are removing the key, this I believe turns on the lights for a short amount of time to allow leaving the vehicle in the dark, re inserting the key and removing it could result in your finger not pressing the home safe button.
I may be totally wrong but this would make sense, good luck

I think you are catching the headlight 'flash' stalk when removing the ignition key, it's easily done and tells the homesafe timer to turn on the head and fog lights for a preset time to help you see on your driveway etc after leaving the car.

if you wait you will see them turn off by themselves, the time setting is one of the infotainment functions.

My V50 does the same and I found that simply 'flashing' the headlights with the key removed would switch them off.
