Default lower steering shaft

Hi,has anybody any bright ideas on how to get rid of the lower cush drive at the bottom of steering shaft by the steering rack.We are in the processof fitting a different engine into a 240,and the cush drive catches on a bit of engine that will be difficult to relocate.I was hoping to just turn the shaft upside down and have the cush drive at the top,but the spline sizes are not the same....another bright idea that doesnt work!any ideas?

No idea what you mean by a cush drive but you can definitely turn the steering shaft upside down for more clearance, mine is!

Cush drive = cushioned drive, ie the rubber joint at the top end, rather than the spider joint at the bottom?

I don't think they all have the "cush" feature anyway, if that is what it is.
Most of my 240s have had a spider joint at top and bottom, and they both need lubricating periodically to stop them binding.

The splines at the bottom are missing in one section, so that you can only connect the shaft to the rack input in one position. Perhaps the upper joint doesn't have that feature, so it won't swap?

Default spline sizes

The problem is that the diameter of the shaft of the column coming through the bulkhead is much larger than the one on the rack,so the steering shaft cannot be simply turned upside down. There seems to be a few variations of the whole system.Hopefully we have sorted the problem by re-aligning the turbo drain tube on the drivers side to run a little closer to the engine block.
