Default Master cylinder fluid reservoir

Hi all, yesterday i had new front pads and discs fited to my wife's 2003 S4o 1.6 manual. The garage also replaced the brake fluid at my request. Today i noticed that the reservoir doesn't seem to fit as tight on the master cylinder as it did. At the bottom of the plastic reservoir is a little lug with a hole in it which looks like it should have a pin or screw to secure it. Does anyone know if it should? . Thanks in advance, Dave.

Mine is quite wobbly when I try to wriggle it. All original and doesn't leak. The plastic reservoir sits down on a black sealing washer and there is a lug either side of the master cylinder. It doesn't look as if there is a hole and pin in the lug nearest to the wing - I cannot see clearly as the electrical plug and socket on that side is in the way. However the lug on the engine side has a small hole in it and there is a metal locating pin in the hole.

I think if there is a place for a pin then there should be one.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will give the garage a call tomorrow and see what they have to say. I have never really noticed if there was a pin/screw there before, but had a closer look today after finding the fluid reservoir seemed to sit a bit looser than it did previously. Would they have had to remove it to replace the brake fluid? as when i last did on the old 240 i left it on. Also does anyone know if the pin passes all the way through or is there one in each side? . Thanks again for your help, Dave.

No need to disturb the reservoir when changing the fluid - cannot think of a situation where there would be a need to do so, other than a complete master cylinder overhaul.

If there is a pin on both sides it certainly won't be one pin right through as it would foul the master cylinder piston. The pin on mine looks like a little roll pin and is flush with the plastic tab.

Just had a look at mine and it seems there is plastic pin that goes from one side to the other.

This fits with what I have seen on other reservoirs on other makes.

I should ring volvo and get a price for the part and then ask the garage to pay for it!

Knowing volvo it'll cost three times what another manufacturer would charge!

Thanks for your help. I had a closer look yesterday afternoon armed with a torch and more importantly my glasses as its quite difficult to get access to the bit you need to look at. I can see that there is actually a roll pin fitted so I guess there isn't anything missing which was my initial concern. I'm still not 100% convinced that the reservoir is sitting as tight as it was though. ....... or it could just be my imagination. Think I might drop in to the garage though for them to double check. Thanks again, Dave.
