Is it the auto climate control one or the manual one? What's wrong with yours?

I may have this wrong (sorry if I have) but I think I need a new Fan resistor fitting due to what I have been reading - the problem I had up to Saturday, is when you put the fan speed to auto it started to have a life of its own it would start at a normal speed then full blast then back to slow or even off then back on full again, then on Saturday night while driving back home it just went on full power no matter if you put the fan from auto to zero - parked up on the drive and tapped the fan control and the fan stopped - I have put it on the zero setting and that's how it is at the mo.. hope this helps?

thanks
Martin.

It may be the case that both are at fault. The random speed, is normally associated with either a dirty or faulty potentiometer. You can rotate the fan speed knob left and right fast for 15-20 times. It will hopefully clear the contacts and in most cases cures the problem of random speeds.

Since the fan is now either at full speed or no air at all, my guess would also be that the heater resistor has stopped working. Part number is 30864189 and you can get one for £20-£25 on ebay

thanks for info - I'll try the "left and right" trick see if that helps, and for the resistor I might as well just get one but would you know what's the going price for the control panel?

thanks again
Martin...

Just had a go with the "right and left" trick no fun.. so its down to one or two of the problems above or both!

If the resistor is faulty, then the left/right trick will not work anymore. That will only cure the random speed problem. Prices for second hand heater control vary from £20-£45 max.

Your a star! - I'v ordered the resistor should be here on Wed/Thur - Lets hope I don't end up with spare parts like I did last time. (two screws! to this day I can't find where the hell they came out of!)

thanks again - btw.. keep an eye open for my next posting which will have the heading "how do I put everything back together"

Regards
Martin....

Post the photos of your spare screws. Might be able to tell where they come from
