Just bought all the bits to do this on my V40 and below are listed the parts nos

v30871696
v30871722
v30872293
v30872329

You will need 2 of each and I just paid the princely sum of £9.59 inc VAT for the lot

Not saying Squire Furneaux in Hersham know their stuff but before I had fished saying what I wanted a bag was on the counter with all the bits in, apparently the spares guys there have made up little kits to save time!

Just a quick follow to say I did both sets of bushes on Saturday and the whole job took about 45 mins. The rear bushes not shown in the write up are almost identical to the front but are a tad larger, they are also far easier to get at and change

Peter9000uk,
Thanks for the info. Are these bushes/o-ring are the same for all V40 models? Is my v40 2.0T year 1999 is the same model as yours?

Thanks

i think earlier production of VS40 are non-cable type i.e similar to photos in this thread.

Thumbs up

I'd like to add my thanks to the author of this guide.

I used to do all kinds of things to my Triumph Herald 30 years ago but have left it to the garages since I've been driving Volvos. This gave me the confidence to tackle the job.

Just replaced the bushes on my 1999 V40 (123,000 miles) feels like a new car again.

Same here - many thanks for the guide.

Spoke a thousand words to the mechanic I asked to do the job -
saved him having to listen to my non technical interpretation !!

Car drives like new and actually engages reverse gear 1st time every time now.

Hi,

I registered just to say thanks for this excellent guide

Just done both ends of the linkage on my '96 V40 2.0CD, and it feels new. No trouble at all changing gear, even into reverse!

This isn't the first time I've had problems changing gear; last time it happened three-quarters of the stuff I read on the internet said the linkage just needed adjusting, so that's what I had the garage do (time constraints, I had a 'proper job' then). It had got so bad, my wife actually had to push it out of a parking space as she couldn't get it into reverse.

Parts from a main dealer cost me £11.17 (inc. VAT), I got it done in less than an hour, and it feels like a new car.
