Default Our V60 hybrid just failed on the motorway...

300 miles away with my wife and daughter on board while I'm sitting at home no longer trusting the technology.

According to my wife the car stuttered and a message along lines of "Hybrid system failure" with instruction to stop asap. The AA have put it on a flatbed truck and are carting it back to the Volvo dealership.

I can find lots of threads for this error for the XC90 but none for V60 PHEV.

Anyone had anything similar?

Many thanks
James

Latest: the message was "Hybrid system malfunction" and power loss followed shortly after. Couldn't move it again after coming to a stop. Thankfully it was at the end of the motorway.

Latest: wife says the car was rough running periodically before failure - sounding more throaty than usual. I suspect I'll be offered a software update (if Volvo dealer service ever picks up the phone), but my money is on some component failure in the inverter / aux battery line up.

Default Our V60 hybrid just failed (possible fix)

Volvo tech thinks it's the Integrated Starter Generator Module. Great news if so - the way it failed sounded like a charging problem. New part arriving next week.

No loan car available... They are also saying I have to pay for the work but it's 3 months since I bought it from them under the Volvo Selekt programme so I'll save that argument until they've fixed it!

I though the Selekt cover was for 12 months. Their arguments could be an interesting addition to this thread. Read your cover very carefully before you collect the car.
Surprised there is no loan car. Obviously not one of the better dealers.

Regardless of the Selekt Warranty contract as it's within the first six months of purchase and assuming that it was not a business purchase under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 it is up to the garage to pay for and fix. If they want you to pay they have to prove that fault wasn't there when you bought it, you do not have to prove that it was.

The other bit that the garages really want to keep you unaware of is that after six months if you can prove to a court that the product, including cars, had a fault when you brought it then you have up to six years to claim for faulty goods in England, Wales and Northern Ireland but only five years in Scotland.

The manufacturer, supplier or garage can also claim fair wear and tear, and state that the designed lifetime was only so many years so proof can be difficult. Volvo are very good at giving a discount if a part fails before its expected lifetime and many other car manufacturers will do the same if you push them, the trick is to get them or an industry expert to tell you what the expected designed lifetime is. This pushes the cost of a claim up so it is really for more expensive parts unless you can find the information easily.
