I've had two R-Designs.

The MY13 had it, my MY15 doesn't...

Resurrecting this old thread because I have only recently tried to fold the passenger seat flat - and failed!

I have followed the instructions but I cannot get the head-restraint to a position where it can be wedged under the glove compartment, so the back rest is not flat. I have pushed the seat as far back as possible, lowered the seat using the manual lever on the left side of the seat, adjusted the back rest to an upright position and tipped it forward by releasing the catches at the back of the seat. The head-restraint hits the face of the glove compartment leaving the back rest inclined.

Any tips to get this to work in MY11 D5 SE LUX, fully appreciated.

I found a similar issue on my xc70. In the end I carefully 'forced' (!) the headrest under the glovebox door with my hand in between to compress the padding and feel how much actual pressure I am subjecting it to. After that I then slide the seat forward a touch to maintain the backrest in a lower position.

Thanks for that; seems it is not as straightforward as the manual would suggest then. I wasn't inclined to force the head-restraint which seems pretty rigid and for fear of scuffing the leather.

The was a thread on here a while ago, for removing the front head restraint. Did a quick search, can't see it just now. It may also be seat model dependant.

The jist of it was, if you imagine the head restraint is on two poles, like it would appear on many other cars, if you track those poles down into the seat to the bottom of the poles, from the back, which is just below where the seat steps in, about 3/4 of the way up the seat back, you then push it in at the bottom, and this allows the head restraint to be removed, although I've never tried it, but it sounds simple.

OK,

Did a quick google search, video as per link, showing how to remove the front head restraint, as I described, different model, but imagine it would work the same.

Thanks for the link.

That certainly looks a possibility though I have not seen this instruction anywhere in the owner manual so I suppose the head restraint isn't meant to be removed routinely. When the headrest is removed there seems to be no grommet in the hole in the leather, it looks roughly cut and I would be wary of tearing the leather, so I might not try it unless I really have to.
