B230FK/FT PTC air pre-heater
Hi,
I'm trying to work out if I need the air Pre-heater resistor that is located on the vacuum line between the air filter and the turbo. Does it make a noticeable difference to the engines running? I've had a brief look at the wiring diagram and it looks as if it's controlled by pin 9 from the LH2.4, does anyone know what conditions are required to make the pre-heater turn on? It looks to be linked to the IAC, is that correct? Many Thanks, T

"The heater is to vaporize the moist air that comes out of crankcase after start up and while driving in very cold weather"
Hmmm, would be great to know what they class as "very cold weather..." Basically, it should be safe to say that I don't really need to concern myself about it when I walk away from the stock ecu's... I know that BMW M47TU2 diesel engines tend to get a build up of emulsified oil in the oil separator during short trips during the winter, but that doesn't really worry me too much...

Joking aside, that is likely with any engine, particularly diesels and especially modern diesel as they take so long to warm up. I have in fact heard a rumour that most diesels these days are designed to only get fully warm when being thrashed up the motorway!
