The best that I can see is oil running from one of the housings fixings, I’m hoping it’s the gasket but I’ve ordered a housing, gasket and a seal from Brookhouse to try and cover every eventuality! Is there anything else behind the flywheel that can leak oil I could see a core plug but guessed that was water jacket?
The website says I need a sump gasket too but if I leave the engine in situ I can’t remove the sump so has anyone changed this housing successfully without taking the sump off and replacing the gasket with the gearbox removed?

Doug Sent you a PM, but yes you can replace with sump in place see amazon Vid ,
The plug is back end of Camshaft

The screen shot from Amazon cars video shows where I had oil coming from in the green circle, or best as I could see with the gear box still fitted, I was wondering if either of the two items circled in red could be the cause?

For the red circled items, the hex plug on the right is an oil gallery clean out and the large knock out plug on the left is the access for machining the camshaft hole for the camshaft bearing. It would be unusual for oil leakage to originate from the hex plug because it is more common that people report that they cannot remove the plug when it comes time to clean during an engine rebuild. I have never heard of the plug backing out on its own. If the camshaft was replaced it is possible that the cam was inserted to far / care was not taken during assembly and the knock out plug has been 'knocked out' of place leaking to oil leakage that would then show up at the green spot.

That picture is interesting because the sump gasket does not appear to be the miserable OEM cork gasket. Does Amazon Cars or somebody else sell a rubber replacement for the B series sump gasket?

I think the core plug is good based on what I could see, l was concerned that the other plug may have been the cause but if what you say is correct then hopefully it should just be the housing and/or gasket🤞!

Good evening all,

So today I removed the gearbox to fix the oil leak and found that the rear main oil seal housing gasket hadn’t been installed correctly which was a relief to find!
Now it’s all back together and the oil leak is fixed so I’m well happy!
Picture to follow as it won’t upload from my phone!
