superchip..
on my second t5 now, first one i had a upsolute chip fitted which was fantastic.. the one i,ve got now is a manuel fitted with a superchip done by previous owner 4 years ago.i,ve noticed it has a little boost valve fitted aswell, it works pretty well but i was wondering why the boost valve my upsolute chip didn,t have one..its 1995 T5..by the way it does work very well..

RE: superchip..
In a nutshell, according to sources, Superchips don't remap anything on the 850 T5. They remove the boost limit, and then fit a bleed valve to increase the boost. That's why you have the valve.

RE: superchip..
But isn't the boost limit in place in order to provide a certain degree of protec?
If that's the case then surely a Superchip could cause considerable damage to an engine and / or turbo if the owner wasn't responsible in their use of the loud pedal. Regards Andy |

RE: superchip..
If the owner isn't responsible with the bleed valve, then yes.

RE: superchip..
Even if Superchips didnt remap the chip why wouldnt they raise the maximum boost level rather than removing it?
It maybe a wise idea to get your car rechipped. Upsolute is perhaps the most popular choice on the US forums and is available in this country. Otherwise take your pick between the companies that post on this forum. Simon |

RE: superchip..
Hello Rich,
When a previous owner had your new car 'Superchipped', a protection board would have been fitted after removal of the original Volvo chip to carry a fresh chip with their work in it... the original chip being handed back in the box that you have. Because the original Volvo software was sufficiently broadly written at that time Superchip found that by fitting a bleed valve that allowed the car to run a higher boost pressure and moving the boost limit set by Volvo they could achieve a very reasonable and safe increase in power and torque. The broadly written software would safely provide the timing and fuelling appropriate for the increased boost pressure. So, you have bought a car with an improved performance which should be safe and adequate. When the VOC and others have held rolling road sessions where owners of cars with various aftermarket systems have been run, the outcomes have been virtually the same on these earlier cars. To me it seems unusual to spend £250 plus on replacing one system with another, on the basis that the existing one may be unsafe. I would suggest to you that you should take the car to a trusted local company who operate a rolling road and get them to do a run and check that they can assure you that the car is running a safe boost pressure and that the car does not run lean at any point in its rev. range. They should be able to adjust the valve if required. If things are safe, then I would suggest that your money would be better spent on other items that may further improve the car from the quite safe base that you should already have. If your car is some years old with a high mileage you may well find that a combination of many worn parts such as the turbo and declining values such as compression will affect the performance more than anything else. Rich,
How about the PE rolling road day on Nov 27th? That'd be a good opportunity to do as Don suggests. Regards Andy |
