2014 D3 (136) Engine warning light
Hi all,
Last week my 2014 V60 D3 (136)engine warning light came on however no effect on performance of car/ no limp mode or other lights on the dash. Took it to local garage who ran diagnostics and thought it was the governor turbo boost sensor. Called today to ask if part had been fitted but was then informed that after further diagnostics they now believe it is a sensor on the bottom of the turbo (sorry not sure exact name or function). As a result they can't replace just the sensor but need to replace the whole turbo unit at a cost of £800 plus VAT just for the part alone. As you can imagine not best pleased especially with only 50k miles on the clock. Has anyone else suffered this issue? Don't really want to replace the whole turbo unit especially if current turbo is functioning. Many thanks. M |

That sounds a bit crazy to me. I would look at replacing the Turbo Control Valve or Boost Control Valve first. Better still get a second opinion from an independent Volvo specialist.
What about these guys? https://www.craigmoncrieff.com/volvo/

Go to a Volvo dealer or indie specialist?
That does not sound right to me. There is a "turbo governor" (aka boost controller) and a separate "boost pressure sensor". But AFAIK nothing like a "governor turbo boost sensor".
My S80 has the D3 136bhp engine so assume the same as yours. In 2018 after a yellow warning light my local Volvo indie diagnosed a faulty "boost pressure sensor". Total cost to replace including fault finding diagnostics, a new sensor, labour and VAT was £285.60.
