Charging another car's battery from XC60 T8
Hi all,
A friend's car battery is dead and I was thinking to help him start it from my car. Then, I read this in the manual: " It is not possible to charge another car’s battery by means of current through the charging points. Using the charging points to charge another car's battery may cause a fuse to blow, which means that the charging points will stop working. " What I understand is that I cannot charge another car from the charging points, but could I do it directly from the battery? Did anyone attempt this? Thanks!

Quite frankly in this day and age, I would never jump a car using jump leads, because for very little money you can buy an iPhone size jump pack, they work really well and jump pretty well anything.
They come with leads etc. So easy to use.

I did some further googling and this is indeed the general idea. I will help my friend by giving him a ride to the closest shop and also by recommending him to get a Volvo
Thanks!

I found this out too, which was a pain in the @rse as our motorhome constantly had a flat battery after 5-6 weeks of not using it and it was always needing a jump start. So I had to remember to take the V60 T4 to the storage compound to recover the van. However, I then fitted a solar panel and trickle charger to connect the leisure battery to the cab battery for the motorhome and have not had to jump start it for nearly 3 years now!
The dealer did say to me "It says in the manual that you cannot jump start another car from the T8 and I cannot therefore recommend it. I will say no more". So there was an implication that it was possible, but once I got the solar panel the need has never arisen again.

I jump started an older Volvo D5 from my D6 from the battery terminals, I read it as you can't jump it using the charger port on the car? I thought the hybrid system is pretty much the same between the D6/T8?
I'll be honest, I didn't check the manual first... to my surprise it wouldn't start the other car without the engine running, had to put it in awd or power mode to get enough power to start the other one. after reading this maybe I won't do it again! |

Have had one for around 2 years now, does the job, I have only had to charge it a few times, holds it charge well, will start V8's and big diesel's.
