Without doubt the 8 Speed (Japanese) Aisin Autobox is an absolute peach with siky smooth changes. My XC60 Vea has now completed over 90k with a free fix on the EGR being the only fault. I do a lot of towing so a fluid change every 2 years is required. If not towing Volvo now recommend Fluid change ever 5 years.
This gearbox is used in the Lexus range amongst others and feedback other forums is very favourable for this particular 8 speed. |

For the Aisin gearbox oil change, where are you getting this done? My local dealer was still saying sealed for life a few months ago. What sort of price am I looking at?
My D4 VEA is coming up to 58k/5 years old. |

The term 'sealed for life' is widely held on many forums to be a completely hollow claim. |

The question really is do you need AWD?
If so - you are stuck with the 6-speed Aisin Warner TF80 (and 5 cylinder engines) However if you just need FWD - then later model 4-cylinder cars had the 8-speed AW box.

hi, when you say stuck with the 6-speed Aisin Warner TF80 (and 5 cylinder engines) is this a negative?

So what am I missing? Well probably the a smoother 8-speed gearbox but the 6-speed is fine. I believe the VEA engine should also do more MPG although reading through the forums how much more I am not really sure, some people seem suggest it's no more economical. The 5 cylinder engine in 215BHP form is quite economical provided you drive it relatively gently, push it hard and it will guzzle fuel quite happily, although nothing like the T5 I had before! |
