volvo had a major problem with dry solder joints years ago on their substandard stereo systems fitted to 740s etc... not good that it has resurfaced elsewhere

You can't judge the soldering on looks alone ~ resolder the flat pack i.c's for a cure, you will need a Weller Pyropen, liquid flux, some solvent cleaner & a magnifying glass.

pyropen is a bit overkill, any decent temp controlled point tipped iron should be more than adequate

Personal preference especially when dealing with the flat packs < I do 100's a week> as no mechanical contact (although pyropen can be fatal in the wrong hands); other joints I'd use an iron

Hi everyone, I had a 2002 V70 with a poorly instrument cluster, it started with the clock constantly going up and the main beam light not showing (which i lived with for a while) but after a while the whole thing just died on me although the car still ran. I did some research and came across a company in Hampshire called Cartronix. I drove down to them using my sat nav for speed and they removed and repaired my instrument cluster in about an hour and could also reset the airbag warning message for me. Really happy and its been working perfect since!
