Front noise and vibration - Volvo v50 - Any idea?
Hello guys,
I hear a noise when I turn left or straight. Sometimes is the same noise, when I turn right. We replaced FL and RR wheel bearing, but nothing change. Two wheel bearing left to replace, but every replace cost me about 150€. We also tried to take out the axle and drive without it, but it was only at low speed (just short test, because we lost an oil of course) so it did not show up there. It is most heard at speeds of more than 30-40 km / h. Here is video of this noise: Also we check a FR wheel bearing: Any idea? Thanks for reply |

I think CV and axles usually manifest at around 50mph, and will reduce as you accelrate up beyoned 70mph. Lastly you should check the engine mounts, they are notorious for vibration, but usually engine Rev, rather than speed related. Id say bad tires or wheel. If it is, get car tracking done after u fix it. |

if it was a buckled wheel or a misshapen tyre I would expect vibration.

put it on stands and run it up from there, get someone to turn steering when excelerating to the speed that you hear the noise stand at the front and look at the wheels to see if they are running true.

It's not the brake disc dust shield flapping about and hitting the brake disc? I have removed both front ones as they rot and become loose!

I am having exactly the same noise on my V70 front drive axle. No real vibrations. It's a 2016 D3 model with automatic and 120T km under its belt.
the noise is very noticeable when there's no load on the drive train or during deceleration, and when turning. No noise at all during acceleration. wheel bearings seem OK to me. noticed some play on the CV joint of the drive shaft, but also where the shaft goes into the gearbox. I can hardly believe that the axles are worn at this relatively low mileage. anyone know the outcome of this case ? |

I am also looking around for some unwanted sound coming from that region.
Just for your information: I found some play in the inner CV-joint. Also the joint moves in the differential housing. I changed the driveshaft for a new one, play in the differential housing is less but not gone. But the sounds still go on... I notice sometimes a sound when shifting between 1 and 2. Also the sound seems to be changing if I shift different. All I can conclude that something is spooking around in the clutch or transmission... I will only found out when the sounds stops, I'm afraid. |
