Volvo recommend new bolts as they have thread lock applied . I re-used the old bolts but applied thread-lock on re-assembly, much cheaper . The leg clamping bolt in the hub carrier can be a PITA as it corrodes . Some heat and plus gas should sort that. Re spring compressor . I used two sets as a single set tended to slip sideways and was scary .Make sure you line up the spring with its seating before releasing the compressors . If in doubt take plenty of pics before compressing the spring .
Don't allow the shocker spindle to rotate/spin when tightening as it can damage the seal.

OK, so after a week of e-mailing the place I ordered all the parts from they've informed me that they can't provide the Monroe springs I ordered.
So I'm looking for new springs again.

I'm keeping it stock height, so no sports suspension or anything.
But what brand of springs would have been OEM? As they've lasted over 150k so far I'd be keen to go with them again when replacing rather than some cheap unheard of brand.
I'm not into paying dealer inflated prices though so I wondered if anyone knew?

Next best option looks to be KYB springs?
Or SACHS springs but they are almost 3x the cost of the Monroe or KYB springs

Why would you replace the springs?

Good call tbh, springs wear out and become weak, new springs can only be a good thing.

Still haven't got round to this job yet. Life has gotten in the way a bit recently.
I plan to attempt this over the Christmas break.

I'm looking to buy all the tools I'll need.
I wondered if anyone could tell me what size swan-neck spanner I'll need to buy in order to undo the nut at the top of the struts?
A video online for Mk4 Modeo struts suggests an 18mm spanner with a 6mm allen key to prevent the strut spinning?
