Default 2015 S80 On Call - Remote Start?

Hi all,

As per my other thread about an S60, I'm also considering an S80.

I've found one which is 2015 onwards, and has On Call fitted.

As per this article-
https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...a801512a956093
The car should support remote start yes?

The dealership aren't familiar with this and are saying that only the newer SPA cars support this, but after I explained about the above link they've said they'll investigate.

Obviously I don't want to invest a huge (to me) sum of money in a car that doesn't tick all my boxes. Can anyone confirm that remote start from On Call really is a thing on the S80?

I hope you never intend to use it, it's illegal in the UK to leave the engine running in an unattended vehicle on the highway, it's okay on your drive, but as cars currently pollute the atmosphere too much already having a car sat on your drive just so it's warm when you get into it is a somewhat selfish attitude to take in my humble opinion. I'm sure others will disagree & as it's totally off topic I will apologise in advance for my rant.

Well I'll be honest I'd fully intend to use it. It makes sense to have the car run for a couple of minutes to de-ice the windscreens (they're both heated) and warm the seats up prior to getting in.

If it didn't have remote start I'd just sit in it with the engine running waiting for the same things to happen, so can't really see an issue. Also, perfectly legal to use where I'd be using it.

Just an update. Volvo say it will work, the dealer still insists it won't. I'm trying to get them to actually talk to each other but to no avail so far...

Latest update is that Volvo technical say it does do remote start but probably requires a chargeable software update to do it. Off the top of his head the guy thought it was £800.

Surely not? Does anyone know any better?

I suspect that the £800 includes two new keys with the remote start button on them. Standard UK keys do not have a special remote start button on them.

All sorted!

Everyone in the garage including their product genius said it couldn't be done, and this afternoon I even had an email from Volvo saying that the car had a VED engine and not a VEA engine so remote start won't work (I've no idea what they mean by that)

Salesman had the On Call software updated (standard free update, not chargeable) and to his surprise (but not mine) the remote start via app functionality sprung into life.

She's alive!!!!

Deal done and I get her on Saturday. Can't bloody wait!

So how will you operate the remote function away from the car?
