Default 1998 T4 Exhaust Manifold Gasket Replacement

hi all, got the ticking on startup from the exhaust manifold, stripped the heatshield off tonight and all 8 nuts were fingertight. managed to nip them all up with 13mm socket but ticking is still there?

is it possible i've damaged the manifold gasket as i ran her for 2 weeks with it blowing before getting round to looking at it tonight.

if i do need a gasket, how hard is it to replace it? can i just remove the 8 nuts, slip it off the studs, replace gasket and refit nuts or do i have to remove turbo from manifold first?

i'vr also noticed a tiny bit of oil lying around where the head meets the block, just in front of the turbo [near cylinder 4], is this possibly an oil seal away in the turbo somewhere.

any help will be appreciated, cheers

I did mine today and it was a straight forward job.Plan a day for it anyway if you have never done one.Lots of fiddly bits and cutting knuckles as well

Ricks right, a bit fiddly, you may well find the gaskets are damaged, mine fell apart when i removed the manifold. You may also find some bolts come out of the block with the nut on and others stay in and the nut comes off, easy sorted after. As Rick says take all the plumbing off the turbo also, watch out for the litle brass ring seals on the water and oil pipes. Turbo return is item 24 in the pic.
