Could double as a SMIDSY hammer when the idiot behind the wheel hasn't bothered to look.

I don't know whether it occurs in the UK too, but here in Oz there is a group of people who reckon fogs in all weather looks pretty cool.

But have not a clue that their car also has rear fogs!

I'd happily support the hammer idea.

Whilst only one fog light illuminated may be cost cutting, it does at least show and mark the outer offside of the car in fog. A central one would not, as people would think that is where the car width 'ends'.

Regards

Pretty pointless lighting the wrong side of the car though.
You'd think if the headlights can switch from RHD to LHD in the menus the foglights would follow suit. Maybe they do ?
With the central rear foglight the width of the car is still marked with the regular lights. You'd have to be going some to miss them or be checking Facebook and Twitter.

Slightly off topic....

If you have the DSP does it work in bad fog?? Will it detect a car in front before you can see it??

It sure does which when the distance parameter is set to the longest can give you an extra warning level that can see through the fog as it were.......

I know on my Skoda Octavia, the dealer (or some clever owner) could switch on the nearside fog light using OBD connection, VCDS which is software for VW group cars, and some fancy codes. Apparently the manufacturer's view was that one fog light was less likely to be confused for brake lights.

On the topic of a central fog light, now that would be confused by me with a brake light, as it is the only light central to a car.

It's logical to have one fog light enabled only on the driver's side / always close to the centre of the road. Central fog light would not let others know where is the end of your vehicle and how much space there is left between them in particular when overtaking or passing by stationary vehicles in really bad weather conditions when you virtually can't see the other vehicle. It would lead to many accidents if there was a central fog light which is already in many cases used for a third brake light anyway. Road lighting regulations have been developed for many years and there's a lot research and statistics done to achieve best possible solutions so no need to reinvent the wheel.

I have an UK XC60 manufactured in Sweden end of 2008 and have rear fog lights and bulbs on both sides. However, only one/driver side works. I'm now trying to convert my UK RHD to LHD and am seeking information what needs to be done in order to swap/enable the left side circuit because the rear left fog light and bulb are already physically there and just not coming on - only right side is which will need to be disabled when left is on.
