Default D5 auxiliary belt

Hello,
I have just bought another V70, its a D5M 2014 with 45k miles. I have read lots about the D5 engine shedding aux belts which then get tangled up in the cambelt gear and knacker the engine.
Was this still a problem on 2014 cars, or was it just the earlier ones?
I have asked the dealer to change the aux belt before i collect it just to be sure but should i change the tensioner aswell?

What is the difference between the D5 and D5M if any?

Thanks,

Roy

I have 13 plate xc60 with similar engine and miles. I just got aux belt and tensioner done along with cam belt and all those tensioners. Left the water pump. I bought the bits from Ryebrook on Ebay and my local garage did the work. I was going to do myself, but for the 2hrs and £140 quid he charged me it was well worth it. Easy job for a good spanner man. Do the lot I say.

I think the change interval is 54k miles (thinking of getting mine changed). I'd definitely change the tensioner too. If the tensioner stops doing its job so will the belt methinks.

That is sound advice. I have no experience of the bearing on xc 60 alternator. I have had two Citroens with failed Bosch free wheel clutch bearings on alternators, well over the 100k mark. The Ina bearing made noises for a long time before I replaced them, so they did not seize. Other Citroen did the same, so whether the Volvo one seizes, or can seize, I don't know.

yours is due for aux belt now ( every 54000 MILES or 10 years ) also close to cam belt time ( 108000 miles or 10 years which ever comes first) So wise to get them done right now .

D5M is Manual transmission I assume !

As I said elsewhere just make sure it's done properly with the right parts (OEM if you can) for the job, either yourself or by someone you can trust.

VOLVO Parts , they are the only ones you know will work. volvo modified the quality about 10 years ago due to the problems. The general purpose belts wont have been. There is an extreme tug on the belt when the first cylinder fires up. you need the best belt there is.

What about that clutch pulley bearing on alternator? Is it a service item? Does it seize and take belt out? Or do you just wait till noise appears?
