Default Windscreens

As I will be soon going to remove the front and rear screens from the 262 in preparation for the new vinyl top. I was wondering if these front screens are unique to the 262 or will a screen from a saloon or a 242 be the same.
This is just in case I break it getting them out. I have 2 sets of removal tools, one where I can insert one with the cutting tool with the steal handle and blade and a cutting wire type with the wooden handles.
Many thanks
Peter

PS I have removed many screens before and only broken a few

Wow you've got a Messerschmitt

I'd say make it a 2 man job, one for removing and one for monitoring the progress, if you search the upmarket US car restorers they may show the best method for getting them out intact.

Sorry I can't help with the actual car.

Many thanks for your quick response SnineT the actual sealant is a very sticky substance that is also soft, it pulls out like chewing gum and sticks to your fingers like gooey sticky mess. I will have a look at some of the methods.
Cheers Peter

I have removed the side windows and trim so far

The Official VOLVO service documentation shows different procedures
for the 240/260 saloons and the 262C

the seals are different and so is the fitting, it also shows how to remove the screen and where to put the removal tool.

The details are in the green book you can read online here

you want this one TP11050 1975 240 SECTION 8 BODY.PDF

Many thanks guys, will look into this. I have discovered that the 262 and 240 screens have different part numbers, however a 262 screen is available overseas with a nice price tag. There might be a possibility that a windscreen company may have one in stock? I am now more reluctant to try and remove my screen. I am going to see if a windscreen guy will remove it for me?
I have just read that they say to use a 200 Watt soldering iron to heat up the sealant and draw the iron around the screen. I guess that must make the sealant soft and able to be pushed out?
Cheers Peter

There is always a bit of risk getting those windscreens out. Would indeed advice to do it with some help. New 262c windscreens go for 600 euros here in the Netherlands. Good luck with the process. Would like to hear if everything went well!

been a long time since I last did a 262 screen but the normal 240 screen fits. The opening is the same size just racked back for the lower roof

Thanks Joost, Well I chickened out and got in the professional and we had the screen out in minutes, the screen is upstairs safely stored until the new vinyl top is fitted early next year I will remove the rear screen later as this is toughened and with a little heat from the heat gun will soften the stick sealant and push out with the aid of a sharp blade.
New front screen here are around £500 including packaging so within your price too.
