excellent guide, thanks, I'd like to do this sometime soon but the most advanced thing I've done at the moment is the thermostat and temp sensor which I did a couple of days ago. I don't suppose there's anyone in the kent area that would mind giving me a hand?

Hi Tom,
if it's any use, you could pop to Cambridge some weekend and I'll give you a hand. I want to know how much quicker I can do it 2nd time :-) Cheers, Pete

Thought I'd have a go at replacing the pipes and separator but, me being me, I took a different approach to it and went at it through the radiator. Had a couple of problems so far, first being that the hose clips on the rad were knackered and needed sawn off and the second being that the 2 bolts that hold the rad in were seized and eventually the nuts welded to the frame came loose - so I drilled the bolts out and will replace the with stainless ones. That took me an hour, and now I'm left with this :-
Going to have a further go at it Thursday, when I get the replacement bits..... Edit - 850 GLS 2.4 N/A manual Estate. Last edited by XR33GTS; Jan 9th, 2007 at 16:51. |

oh dear...one problem i can instantly see is how are you going to get the cannister to block pipes off and more importantly back on and secured.....they are difficult to secure (jubilee) with the inlet man off but i cant see how your going to manage this from the front.... i would not recomend this way, but if you are determined to i would not remove the cannister, just the head and pcv breathers only.... here is a overview of the cannister so you see what i mean... cheers jod

Just been thinking about this. I think the reason it looked an easier way on my car is that I don't have an intercooler or A/C, so just dropping the rad was nice and easy. As for the jubilee clips, my separator appears to be a different design and seems to have on pipe at the bottom (going straight into the block) and one on the side and top..... Looks nice and easy close up, but the pic is fairly poor. I'll post a better on in a mo.
Edit - Same pic enlarged, so you can see the hoses easier Last edited by XR33GTS; Jan 9th, 2007 at 17:17. |

the 4th pipe runs thru the inlet manifold too the top of the engine via the spark plug cover...
the dificulty in this route actually looks to me the removal & replacemant of the pipes.... they need cleaned & checked along with the holes into the block, failier to do this will just lead IMHO to the system blocking far quicker than a fully cleaned vent system? over to you jod |
