'Smart' start button
Apologies if it's just me but after 18 months I have just discovered there is no need to hold the start button in until the engine fires. One quick press is all it needs and the starter spins on its own until it starts.
It was frosty this morning and rather than hold the button in, I just gave a quick press, nothing happened for a second or so while the glow plugs heated, then the starter kicked in and away it went all by itself. The car that keeps on giving.

I held the button in early on, but quickly figured out the 'one touch' operation, soon after I got it.
Can't remember how I figured it out, but I can see how someone could carry on holding the button, as that's how keys used to work. |

And do you leave the key in?
I always take it straight out and put keys into cupholder area in middle

Same "one touch" operation of start button in my S80, together with key less entry and key less start, so can wear lanyard with key in leather sleeve attached to. Basically I'm not touching the key at all.

Don't worry, it took me months to discover that. I seem to remember someone else made the point about having to hold the button in and someone then replied that it was unnecessary. I would still be holding the button now had I not ready the post. The joy of a forum.

I've got keyless, so the key never leaves my pocket, but why take it out ? There's a hole in the dash specifically designed to keep hold of the key for you, until you need them again when you get out the car, why pull it out and put it in a cupholder ?

One reason to take the key out could be if it's on a keyring with other keys. The other keys would swing about, clonking off the dash etc.
I'm keyless so doesn't affect me, and if I wasn't keyless it would be on a keyring on it's own, but some people seem to like to keep all their keys on one keyring

I'm sure I read in the handbook a year or two ago that you should not put keys in the cupholders in the centre. But I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
