Default Replacing the fabric roof

Anyone know how much hassle it is to replace the fabric on a Mk1 C70? I've seen new aftermarket ones for sale for around £400 and I assume its "just" a case of removing the old one and then hopefully sliding the new one over and then fixing in place?

Or am I being far too optimistic there?

Several folks have done it and not reported too much hassle. I think the two main things are 1, the quality of the new roof and 2, the competence of the fitter. Best to search for Youtube videos of 'how to do it'. Volvo do list comprehensive instructions in VIDA.

Mine has had a new roof at some point and it's a realy quality job - it's actually quieter inside than the factory roofs so much be thicker or have soundproofing.

But don't attept it yourself, it's a real specialist skill, they also have to transfer and re-glue the rear window and the roof mechanism may need calibrating afterwards which is not straight forward.

It is possible to buy a second hand roof assembly and transfer that.

There is a supplier of new roofs in the states - cannot recall the name at the moment - who supply new hoods made of the correct material with the glass heated screen already installed. Sometime ago a forum member in Australia fitted one diy without any issues.

This is the company I was thinking of. https://www.autotopsdirect.com/Volvo...top-s/5348.htm

I had mine done by carhood warehouse in Sevenoaks. It was not cheap, but they supply the roof and re installed the window in the back. Did a good job. See link below for their web site https://www.carhood.com/reviews/
